Bangladeshi Chief of Army Staff, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, and delegation are in the Banjul to sign a military bilateral agreement with The Gambia army.
The deal will see Gambian armed forces and Bangladeshi army co-deploy in United Nations peacekeeping missions in hotspots around the world.
This is the first ever cooperation deal of such between the two countries.
“The purpose of the visit is to assess GAF’s readiness for a possible co-deployment with their Bangladeshi counterparts to a United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Mission,” The Gambia Armed Forces said in a statement.
According to the statement, the four star general was welcomed to The Gambia with a spectacular half guard of honour mounted by personnel of 1 Infantry Battalion.
