National Assembly member for Banjul South Touma Njie had a bitter dispute with Vice president Dr Isatou Touray yesterday over a bill seeking more seats for women in parliament.

The bill titled Constitution Amendment Bill 2021 was tabled by Touma Njie but it failed two consecutive voting chances within a fornight.

In a dramatic move, Touma blamed Dr Touray for not supporting her bill in the house.

But Dr Touray fired back: “you are not telling the truth.”

She accused the lawmaker of trying to use the bill as a gateway to score political points.

“She is not telling the truth,” Dr Touray added.

However the headline grabbing exchanges  led to Gambians taking to social media to express their views.

Some supported Touma Njai for tabling the bill they deemed a platform for women political representation and others viewed it as “discriminatory”
