The Government of The Gambia has welcomed the country’s ranking as the fourth most peaceful nation in Africa in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2026, describing it as recognition of the country’s continued progress in peace, security and democratic governance.

According to the report, The Gambia recorded strong performance in safety and security, maintained low levels of internal conflict, and strengthened national stability.

The government said the achievement reflects the collective efforts of Gambians, the security services, civil society and development partners in preserving peace and social cohesion.

It added that the ranking reinforces its commitment to strengthening state institutions, upholding the rule of law and promoting inclusive national development.

The government also urged citizens to continue safeguarding peace, unity and tolerance, describing them as essential pillars for the country’s continued progress.
