Bansang General Hospital has received a major boost to its operations after the 23rd batch of the Chinese medical team in The Gambia donated medical consumables valued at nearly one million dalasis.
The donation, handed over to management at the hospital, is expected to ease pressure on supplies and strengthen the facility’s ability to deliver essential healthcare services to patients across the Central River Region.
As a key referral facility, Bansang General Hospital serves a large rural population, providing maternal health services, emergency care, and general medical treatment. Officials say the donation comes at a crucial time when demand for services remains high.
The gesture was made by the China Medical Team, which has been supporting The Gambia’s health sector through medical outreach, clinical services, and capacity-building for local health workers.
Hospital officials welcomed the support, describing it as timely and impactful in improving day-to-day service delivery and patient care.
The contribution also reflects the long-standing health cooperation between The Gambia and China, which dates back to the 1970s, with successive Chinese medical teams playing a consistent role in strengthening healthcare delivery in the country.
Over the years, this partnership has included not only medical donations but also training and technical support aimed at improving healthcare standards and expanding access to quality services, particularly in rural communities.
Health authorities say such partnerships remain vital in supporting The Gambia’s broader efforts to strengthen its health system and improve outcomes for patients nationwide.
