President Adama Barrow has asked Gambians to embrace peace despite their political differences, as he delivers his Eid message.

“It is obvious that through dialogue we can always build consensus to sustain peace, security and stability. My appeal to the nation therefore, is that no matter what the circumstances are let’s keep the peace,” he said.

“Within the Ecowas sub-region, the adverse economic realities resulting from the global crises and the internal political tensions in our nations still remain relentless.

“On due hostilities and social divisions characterise the sub region because of the urge for personal gain. People fight for political advantage, not to build better communities and nations, but for personal interests.”

The Gambia, a majority Muslim nation, will celebrate Eid ul-Fitr on Wednesday (10 April) in observance of the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

President Barrow has declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays in the country.
