President Adama Barrow has confirmed Major General Ousman Gomez as the new Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) as part of a series of senior military appointments announced on Monday.

The appointments, made under Section 190(1A) of the 1997 Constitution, took effect immediately.

Brigadier General Sait Njie, who previously served as Commander of the Gambia National Army, has been appointed Deputy Chief of Defence Staff.

Brigadier General Yaya Drammeh, formerly Commander of the Republican National Guards, takes over as Commander of the Gambia National Army.

Meanwhile, Colonel Alhagie Sanneh has been recalled from his post as Defence Attaché at The Gambia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and appointed Commander of the Republican National Guards.

The appointments were announced in a statement from the Office of the Government Spokesperson.
