President Adama Barrow has inaugurated the 12-kilometre Brufut–Madiana–Banyaka–Kunkujang Mariama Road Project in the West Coast Region, describing the development as a major boost for transport and economic activity in the area.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Madiana Lower Basic School, drew residents, government officials and community leaders from Kombo North and Kombo South.
Implemented by SSTP Construction Company with the National Roads Authority as consultant, the road links Brufut, Madiana, Banyaka and Kunkujang Mariama.

The newly completed road was constructed as a double-surface-dressed carriageway with an eight-metre width designed to withstand heavy rainfall and improve long-term durability.
Speaking at the event, Barrow said infrastructure development is not only about connecting communities but also about creating opportunities and improving lives.
He stated that the road would help reduce isolation in parts of Kombo South while improving access to schools, health facilities and markets.
The president added that his government remains committed to expanding development projects beyond urban centres to rural and coastal communities across The Gambia.
NRA Managing Director Sulayman Sumareh Janneh said the road was designed to improve traffic flow, strengthen drainage systems and support the growing population in the area.
Residents are expected to benefit from easier transportation, increased business activity and improved access to social services following the completion of the project.
