President Adama Barrow

President Adama Barrow is set to deliver his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on March 26, as part of the First Ordinary Session of the 2026 Legislative Year of the National Assembly of The Gambia.

According to an announcement from the Office of the Clerk, the session will run from Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with the President’s constitutional address expected to highlight government priorities, policy direction, and national development efforts for the year ahead.

The SoNA, delivered pursuant to Section 77(1) of the 1997 Constitution and Order 24 of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly, will take place at the Assembly Chambers and is strictly by invitation.

President Barrow’s address comes at a time when the country continues to navigate economic pressures, infrastructure expansion, and governance reforms.

The annual address provides the Head of State an opportunity to outline achievements recorded over the past year and present policy proposals and legislative plans for the months ahead.

During the month-long session, lawmakers will also deliberate on government business, including bills, motions, committee reports, and questions directed to ministers for oral responses.

Daily sittings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., with members of the public required to secure admittance from the Office of the Clerk to observe proceedings.

Attendees have also been reminded to comply with the prescribed dress code and maintain silence during sittings.

The March 26 address is expected to set the tone for the 2026 legislative agenda and provide insight into the administration’s roadmap for national development and governance reforms in the year ahead.
