President Adama Barrow on Saturday inaugurated newly built roads and bridges in Basse, Upper River Region.

The roads and bridges were built at a cost of $100 million and would provide residents of the region with vital transportation network.

“We have told you we mean business. This is why I said you should no longer refer to me as Barrow Manasi, say Barrow nata dokuwolela (Barrow has come to work),” the president told to a jubilant crowd in Basse.

“We have not yet started in terms of the work that has happened, you have not seen anything yet.

“Do you know when real work will take place in Gambia? When the election takes place on the 4th of December 2021. This is when you will see development in The Gambia, after I win the election.”

The flagship bridge that linked Basse and Wuli was named Samba Juma bridge after  local hero Samba Juma, a canoe man who  gained fame for transporting passengers including schoolchildren between Basse and Kerewan Badala.

One of the beneficiaries of Samba’s generosity was President Barrow who as a young person benefited from his kind deeds.
