Berewuleng FC Women have taken a massive step toward securing their first-ever Gambia Women’s League title after demolishing Immigration FC 7-0 in a dominant display on Wednesday.

The emphatic win propelled the Brikama-based side to the summit of the table with 40 points, with just two matches left to play.

The result came on a pivotal day in the title race as TMT FC narrowly edged out defending champions Red Scorpions 1-0, allowing Berewuleng to capitalize and move top.

TMT now sit second with 37 points, while Red Scorpions trail with 35 points but still have a game in hand.

If Berewuleng maintain their form and win the league, it will mark the club’s first-ever title in the Gambian Women’s First Division a historic achievement since their promotion to the top tier.

Speaking after the match, head coach Fakebba Saine expressed his delight at his team’s performance and resilience throughout what he described as a “difficult journey.”

“I’m so excited with the results we have today because it was a difficult journey. More especially after playing against Brikama, you can see the frustration from the players and this can tell you that the players need something. But what we told them is for them to go back to the drawing board, we work one or two things and then come back stronger and I believe that was what they did and it was a great victory,” Saine said.

Berewuleng have scored consistently throughout the season, and Saine believes goal-scoring has never been a major issue, even when results didn’t go their way.

“If you look at the team in the past 5, 6 games, scoring goals was not our problem. It’s only that in our last game we were not lucky to score but scoring is not our problem right now. These are some of the things we have been having difficulties about and we try to work on that and now it’s coming.”

Looking ahead, Saine emphasised that the team is taking it step by step and believes his players have matured and are ready to make history.

“We are taking it game by game. If you recall last year and the year before, during my interviews, I always said this thing is a process and as time goes on it will come. And I believe that the girls are ready to do it this year and I believe with the motivation and the caring they are having, it would be different.”

As the title race tightens, Berewuleng are aiming to finish the season undefeated, a feat that would cap a remarkable campaign.

“Yeah, this is what we are working for. We want to complete the season without having a defeat. This is what we are all fighting for.”

Saine also touched on the importance of scoring and maintaining clean sheets, noting that while it’s difficult, it remains part of their strategy.

“When it comes to clean sheets, it is difficult to maintain even in Europe, you see goalkeepers and teams struggle. But when it comes to goal scoring, this is something we work on.

We prepare our players both physically and mentally for them to understand that if you want to win, you must score goals. Without goals, you cannot have the points you want. Three points you can only get when you score.”

With two games to go and a narrow lead, Berewuleng FC are now within touching distance of their maiden league title but with TMT and Red Scorpions still in the hunt, the final stretch of the season promises high drama.
