President Adama Barrow has urged Gambians and road users to take ownership of the country’s newly built roads and develop a strong culture of maintenance.

He made the call on Saturday while inaugurating Lot 2 of the 50-kilometre urban roads network, connecting Brufut and other communities in the West Coast Region.

President Barrow said the road projects would improve mobility, strengthen connectivity and security, and create new economic opportunities for communities.

He thanked the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Saudi Fund for Development and other partners for supporting the expansion of The Gambia’s urban road network.

Barrow said the projects represent part of the lasting legacy of the OIC Summit hosted by The Gambia.

As OIC Chair, he also expressed concern over conflicts in the Middle East and called for dialogue and peaceful solutions.

The President is expected to inaugurate additional urban road projects in Farato, Latrikunda, Abuko and the Gunjur beach area in the coming week.
