KMC officials have demolished some shops at Buffer Zone market that they deemed to be engaging in “immoral” night-time activities.

The demolished shops included those that  are converted at night time for bars, brothels and other illegal activities that the officials said contravened the market’s policy.

Abdoulie Camara, chairman of Latrikunda Sabiji market who also oversees the Buffer Zone market, told reporters today (14 August) that they welcomed the demolition.

“This demolition should have happened long time ago, because if you visited the  market at night-time and see the activities there, you will be terrified and surprised what you are seeing,” he told reporters.

The demolition came a week after Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) market manager Modou Njie ordered a temporary shutdown of the market over illegal night-time activities there.

According to Mr Njie, they found groups of people at the market shops drinking alcohol while others were smoking cannabis.
