The Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) will today (March 30) submit the final Draft Constitution to President Adama Barrow at State House.

The draft constitution has stirred up heated debates across the length and breadth of The Gambia as to what rights, provisions and guarantees that should be included in the constitution. One of those contentious issues was the word “secularism” and whether it should be included in the constitution.

Gambians at home and abroad have made their views known on that issue and many others, and are awaiting to see whether those views have been incorporated in the final draft constitution.

“It is gratifying to note that a lot of effort was invested by Gambians from all walks of life to ensure that the Commission produces a Constitution that will stand the test of time and become a model for not only the African continent but the World at large,” the Commission said in a statement.

The CRC will publish a copy of the final draft constitution on Tuesday March 31 2020 and the accompanying Report on its website (www.crc220.org) and via its social media platforms “to give Gambians the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the contents of this national document of great importance”.
