Popular Afromanden artist Oboy and rising young musician Gambian Child have paid a courtesy visit to the Gambian High Commission in London during their stay in the United Kingdom for the annual summer cultural festivals.
The two artists were received by The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr Fatou Bensouda, who praised them for promoting Gambian culture through music and serving as ambassadors for the country abroad.
Dr Bensouda encouraged the musicians to continue creating music that educates, inspires and promotes positive values, stressing the important role artists play in shaping society and influencing young people.
She also urged them to remain focused on their careers and avoid the negative influences that can sometimes accompany success in the entertainment industry.
She assured the artists that Gambia House would always remain their home whenever they visit the United Kingdom and encouraged them to maintain close ties with the High Commission. The High Commissioner also thanked Ebou Juwara for accompanying the artists during the visit.
Deputy Head of Mission Suntou Touray also welcomed Oboy and Gambian Child, urging them to remain authentic by producing original, well-researched and uplifting music that celebrates Gambian identity and culture.
He highlighted the growing importance of the creative industry to national development and encouraged the pair to continue using their talents to positively influence society.
