Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has hailed the strengthening of relations between Turkey and Senegal, following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in Ankara.

In a statement after the meeting, Erdogan described Sonko as a “dear brother” and praised Senegal’s growing leadership role in Africa. He confirmed that the two countries signed several cooperation agreements aimed at deepening bilateral ties.

“With the documents signed today, we made our cooperation even more solid,” Erdogan said.
He announced plans to increase trade between the two nations to $1 billion in the first phase, citing Turkish companies’ ongoing contributions to Senegal’s infrastructure and development under the Senegal 2050 National Transformation Program.
“We are ready to share our expertise with our Senegalese friends,” he added.
Security and defense were also high on the agenda. Erdogan revealed discussions on joint efforts to combat terrorism and develop the defense industry, noting Africa’s growing interest in Turkish defense products.
The leaders also discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with Erdogan commending Senegal’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“Senegal sets an example for many countries,” Erdogan said. “Our struggle will continue until the genocide in Gaza ends and those responsible are held to account.”
He condemned the ongoing suffering of Palestinian children and vowed justice for the victims.“Those who condemn innocent children to hunger and death will be held accountable by history and the law.”
