Lawyer-turned-politician Essa Faal has come under fire for what a senior government adviser has branded “dangerous” comments following the controversial removal of Auditor General Modou Ceesay.

Presidential adviser Dou Sano launched an attack on Mr Faal, accusing him of using inflammatory language after he condemned President Adama Barrow’s decision to sack the country’s top auditor.
The dismissal has drawn criticism from opposition figures and civil society groups, who said it undermines accountability and good governance.
“Your remarks are disturbing and dangerous,” he said in an audio.
“A good leader should not behave like you,” he charged, warning that Mr Faal’s remarks could destabilise the fragile political climate.
He described the lawyer-turned-politician’s criticism of the Barrow administration as “dangerous” and accused him of putting personal ambition ahead of national unity.

Mr Sano insisted the government would not tolerate rhetoric that could “threaten the peace of the country,” hinting that officials are closely monitoring political discourse.
Mr Faal, who has repeatedly accused the administration of “blatant disregard for the law,” has yet to respond to the allegations.
