Opposition leader Essa Faal has launched a blistering attack on President Adama Barrow’s government, describing it as deceitful, corrupt, and out of touch with ordinary Gambians.
Speaking during an address to his supporters on Sunday, the APP-Sobeya leader said Gambians continue to face worsening living conditions nearly a decade after Barrow took office.
“We have an unserious government, a playful government, a deceitful and corrupt government, a government that cannot do anything. That is the type of government we have in this country,” Faal said.
He accused the administration of prioritising the interests of top officials over citizens, citing recent salary hikes and benefits for National Assembly members.
“They increased the salaries of NAMs and gave them cars. The Speaker receives D19 million every five years. If I lie, they can take me to court. So what about the rest of the people? Are they not part of the country?” he asked.
Faal also decried the income gap within government institutions, claiming “the president’s one-month salary equals the eight-year salary of his driver.”
He further alleged mismanagement of the Gambia-Spain Circular Migration Program, saying the government collected D39 million from applicants but selected only a few participants.
