Former president Yahya Jammeh’s younger brother Ansumana Jammeh has died aged 45. 

Ansumana Jammeh, a businessman and former diplomat, died on Saturday at the Afrimed clinic after a short illness, the family said.

Mr Jammeh who reportedly suffers from high blood pressure passed away at 11pm last night. 

Former president Yahya Jammeh was said to be distraught at the untimely death and had asked for a post-mortem examination according to sources close to the family. 

The APRC leadership, the party founded by ex-president, is overseeing the burial on behalf of the Jammeh family. 

“Whoever wants to make it to Kanilai to attend the funeral rites can be on standby whilst we await confirmation,” the party’s deputy spokesman said.

Ansumana Jammeh will be laid to rest on Sunday in his hometown of Foni.
