A young woman raped and killed in Busumbala has been named as Maria Mendy.

Ms Mendy, a Grade 12 student at St. Peter’s Technical Senior Secondary School, died in a suspected murder-suicide this afternoon.

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after reports of a person found unresponsive.

Her alleged killer identified as Zeizon Gomez committed suicide by hanging.

Police say the deaths are linked and have opened an investigation into the murder-suicide.

Police spokesman Lamin Njie told Gambiana that the man and woman lived in the same house. 

The bodies were taken away for post-mortem examination.
