Amie Colley, the National Assembly Member for Foni Berefet, has strongly dismissed allegations made by former president Yahya Jammeh, who months ago accused her of planning to travel to Equatorial Guinea to meet him and of “mingling with men.”
Responding to Jammeh’s claims, Colley said she has left the matter “in God’s hands,” describing the accusations as baseless and hurtful.
“I have left all in God’s hand to judge between me and Yahya Jammeh for the allegations he made against me that I wanted to meet him in Equatorial Guinea for sex,” she said.
Ms Colley added that her past public support for Jammeh was never motivated by personal interest.
“My defence for Yahya Jammeh was out of love for country, not for sex,” she said.
She further argued that Jammeh’s assertions were illogical, noting that she was a child when he seized power in 1994.
“When he came to power in 1994, I was eight years old, and if he had married earlier, his daughter would have been my age mate,” she said.
She maintained that she is happily married and fully committed to her family.
“What he accused me of is false because I am happily married, enjoying my marriage,” she said.
The former president has not responded to her remarks.
