A UK-based friend of the late Lamin Keita—widely known and loved as Taka Titi—has launched a fundraising campaign to support his young family and safeguard his legacy following his passing earlier this year.
Taka Titi, a beloved cultural icon, historian, and musician, died on Saturday, 12 April, at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul. His death left a significant void in Gambian cultural life and an irreplaceable loss to his family.

Jane Smith, a longtime friend, has created a GoFundMe campaign to raise urgently needed funds for his family, who are facing severe financial hardship. Their home is reportedly at risk of collapse during the current rainy season unless critical repairs are carried out.
The fundraiser aims to:
- Repair the family compound to prevent further damage during the rains
- Provide stability and support for Taka’s children and loved ones
- Honour and continue the spirit of generosity and culture that Taka Titi embodied
