The Gambia Armed Forces has welcomed home Lieutenant Dawda Lowe and Lieutenant Omar K Jarju following their successful completion of officer training programmes in Turkey.
The two officers returned after undergoing rigorous academic and military training at top Turkish military institutions, where they gained specialised skills to strengthen The Gambia’s defence capacity.

Lieutenant Lowe trained at the Turkish Land Forces Academy, where he earned qualifications in International Relations and Military Science. He later specialised in Infantry at the Tuzla Infantry School in Istanbul, completing a Basic Officer Training Course between September 2025 and April 2026.
Lieutenant Jarju, on the other hand, trained at the Turkish Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His programme included extensive naval and maritime instruction, covering navigation, seamanship, maritime security, and search and rescue operations.

He also gained hands-on experience aboard patrol boats, training vessels, and major fleet units, including frigates and submarines, alongside advanced simulation exercises.
The GAF High Command described their achievements as a reflection of discipline, dedication, and excellence, noting that both officers have brought honour to themselves and the country.
The military said the return of the two officers strengthens its ongoing efforts to build a professional and highly skilled force capable of responding to national and regional security needs.
Their training forms part of broader international cooperation aimed at enhancing the capacity and professionalism of The Gambia’s armed forces.
