The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has launched an investigation into the quality of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) reportedly supplied from GAM Petroleum’s Garn Storage Facility, following complaints from several Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
According to PURA, the complaints raised concerns over the fuel quality, prompting the authority to immediately activate its regulatory oversight mechanisms.
Samples have been collected from GAM Petroleum and other relevant sources for independent laboratory testing to determine compliance with national fuel standards.
While investigations are ongoing, PURA has stated that there is no confirmed evidence of widespread fuel quality failure.
The authority reassured consumers that precautionary measures are in place to safeguard public confidence and maintain stability in the country’s petroleum supply chain.
PURA is actively engaging with GAM Petroleum and the affected OMCs to obtain technical clarifications as part of the probe.
The authority also emphasized that, if any breaches of regulatory standards are confirmed, appropriate enforcement action will be taken in line with the law.
Members of the public who experience or suspect fuel quality issues are urged to report concerns promptly through PURA’s Consumer Protection Hotline (148) or other established complaint channels.
The investigation reflects ongoing regulatory efforts to ensure that petroleum products in The Gambia meet approved safety and technical standards, reinforcing the commitment to consumer protection and market stability.
