Fourteen people including eight health workers have tested positive for coronavirus, taking the country’s cases to 78.

Ten of the cases are local transmission while the other four are imported, the Health Ministry said.

“We have 14 new confirmed COVID-19 cases (13 Gambians and 1 Senegalese) – 8 are health workers, 2 housewives, 1 carpenter, 1 businesswoman.

“The occupation of the other 2 are not specified. Gender categorisation: 7 female all Gambians; 6 male Gambians (and 1 Senegalese male).”

On Wednesday President Adama Barrow extended the state of public emergency by seven days.

“In the light of the increasing number of COIVD-19 cases and in consideration that three (3) COVID related deaths have been recorded in the country, the public is advised to take all precautionary measures to protect themselves and others in a bid to curtail the spread of COVID-19, while experts continue to monitor and assess the situation,” a statement from the president’s office said.
