The Government of The Gambia has announced the successful completion of the authentication process for Certificates of Character submitted by Gambian nationals in Spain under the Spanish Regularisation (Amnesty) Programme.

In a statement issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, the government said the move follows an earlier announcement made on 3 February 2026 regarding the initiative by the Government of the Kingdom of Spain to regularise the status of undocumented migrants.

The ministry noted that, as part of efforts to provide consular support to Gambians abroad, it introduced a streamlined authentication process outlined in a press release dated 2 April 2026.

According to the statement, all submitted Certificates of Character have now been authenticated by the relevant authorities and returned to Banjul.

Beneficiaries have been informed that the authenticated documents will be available for collection from Monday, 11 May 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad in Banjul.

For collection arrangements, beneficiaries have been asked to contact Ms Jainaba Secka, Protocol Officer, on 987 2713 or 723 1695.

The ministry added that beneficiaries or their duly authorised representatives will be required to sign for receipt upon collection.

Authorities urged all concerned to collect their documents promptly in order to comply with the timelines set by the Spanish authorities.

The Government of The Gambia also expressed appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of Spain for what it described as an important initiative, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the welfare, dignity and rights of Gambians living abroad.
