The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with the British Short-Term Training Team (STTT), has graduated 33 instructors from a three-week Training of Trainers programme focused on peace support, humanitarian operations and post-conflict recovery.
The graduation ceremony took place on Thursday at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School (GAFTS) in Fajara.

The course equipped participants with advanced instructional skills and human-centred operational approaches, preparing them to train other service members for deployment in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

Major Abdoulie Secka, Commandant of GAFTS, said the training focused on critical competencies such as Counter-IED procedures, patrolling and house-clearing operations — all designed to improve safety and stability in conflict areas.
“This training is vital for saving lives and supporting communities in crisis,” he said, while thanking the British STTT for their partnership.

Captain Mark Pretorious, Officer Commanding the British STTT, praised the trainees for their discipline and professionalism.
Mr. Ashley Medrith, representing the British High Commissioner, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening military cooperation with The Gambia.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Deputy CDS Major General Ousman Gomez described the initiative as a strategic investment in GAF’s leadership and professionalism.
“These graduates will play a critical role in preparing our forces for complex operational environments,” he said, urging them to uphold discipline, excellence and integrity.
He thanked the British partners for their continued support in enhancing GAF’s training standards and operational capabilities.
