Tom Saintfiet, head coach of the Gambia national football team, has said the Scorpions “must win” their game against South Sudan to have a better chance  to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Gambia will today (14 June) face South Sudan in Egypt for their crucial Afcon qualifier as the team looks to close the gap with group leader Mali and Congo.

It is currently placed third in Group G with six points behind Congo while Mali tops the group with nine points and South Sudan languishes at the bottom with three points.

Coach Tom Saintfiet said despite some key players missing from the starting lineup, the other players will be motivated to earn the country a victory.

“The boys will be motivated and they will do everything to have a suitable result to keep our way to qualification.

“We want to win every game. The difference is we we don’t want to win, we must win. We will have to win against South Sudan. We are eager to get the three points,” he said.
