Two people on Saturday tested positive for Covid-19 bringing the Gambia’s coronavirus cases to 20.

The new cases are said to have been in their 20s and one of them is said to have travelled into the country from Senegal.

The country has been experiencing a spike in the coronavirus cases in the past two weeks, after it appeared that it was having a grip on the pandemic.

In the Heath ministry’s press briefing today, Dr Mustapha Bittaye said: “two case have been registered bringing the total number of cases confirmed in the country to 20. One of the two cases is the first case registered in Western Two Region.

“While one has been in quarantine for being a close contact of the eleventh case, the other was taken into quarantine on account of recently returning from Senegal.”  

The country is still in 45 lockdown put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic. It is due to expire on May 17.
