The Gambia government of will fully fund the first cohort of students at the newly inaugurated Madina Lamin Kanteh Multipurpose USET Campus in Central River Region North, as part of efforts to expand access to technical and vocational training.
Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Professor Pierre Gomez announced the scholarship package during the inauguration of the new campus, saying the initiative will allow students to pursue skills training without the burden of tuition fees.
Professor Gomez said the scholarships will be provided by the Government in partnership with the MRC Holland Foundation.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to decentralising Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and bringing quality skills training closer to young people across the country.

He recalled that two years ago, President Adama Barrow directed his Ministry to work with the MRC Holland Foundation and Brighter Future to establish the facility.
Professor Gomez said the completed campus demonstrates that the President’s commitment has translated into tangible development.
The Madina Lamin Kanteh campus is equipped with modern training facilities and accommodation, providing students with access to both skills training and residential facilities.

Professor Gomez said the facility forms part of the government’s broader effort to decentralise TVET and expand opportunities for young people outside the Greater Banjul Area.
He also disclosed that another USET facility is being developed in Central River Region South, with a focus on agribusiness.
The expansion of USET facilities is expected to increase access to practical skills training and support young people seeking technical and vocational qualifications.
The Minister said the government’s investment in TVET reflects its broader focus on equipping young Gambians with skills that can improve their employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
