The Gambia government has announced plan to evacuate stranded Gambian migrants in Tunisia.

The government effort comes after a disturbing video of Gambian migrants in Tunisia emerged on social media.

In the video, Gambian migrants pleaded for support, adding they are being terrorised by Tunisians. They complained of being forcelly evicted with no food to eat and water to drink.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement:”regarding the disturbing video of migrants in Tunisia circulating on social media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely working with the local authorities, IOM and Gambian missions in both Morocco and Mauritania, to ascertain their numbers and verify their nationalities as part of the evacuation procedures.”
