The Government of The Gambia has expressed deep concern following a missile strike by Iran targeting a US military base in Qatar.

In a statement issued on Monday, officials in Banjul said the incident, which occurred on 23 June, posed a threat to international peace and regional stability.

“The Government of The Gambia expresses its deep concern over the missile attack in the State of Qatar,” the statement read. “We are deeply troubled by any act that endangers international peace, security, and regional stability.”

The government called for calm and urged all parties to exercise restraint.

“As a country that firmly upholds the principles of sovereignty, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence, The Gambia calls for a commitment to resolving differences through diplomatic means.”

The government also expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Qatar, calling on all sides to prioritise peaceful resolution in line with international law and the UN Charter.

“The Gambia remains committed to regional and global efforts aimed at preserving peace and preventing further escalation,” the statement added.
