
The Gambia Immigration Department has held its first passing-out ceremony for 100 Border Patrol Unit (BPU) officers following the completion of a three-month intensive training programme.
The ceremony took place on 12 February 2026 at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School and was attended by senior government officials, security chiefs and partners, including the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Jerreh Sanyang, and the National Security Adviser, Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng.

Presiding over the event, Mr Sanyang highlighted the strategic importance of the Border Patrol Unit, saying it aligns with government security priorities, including the YIRIWA Agenda, the Security Sector Reform framework and the National Security Policy.
Director General of Immigration, Ebrima Mboob, praised the officers for their discipline and resilience, describing the unit as a key pillar of the Department’s reform agenda aimed at strengthening border management and national security.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Pateh Jallow, speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, stressed the need for strong inter-agency collaboration to combat irregular migration and transnational crime.

The Commandant of the Training School, Major Abdoulie Secka, said the graduates had undergone comprehensive training designed to enhance operational effectiveness and border security capacity.
National Security Adviser Jeng and former Immigration Director General Tamsir Jassey emphasised professionalism, competence and readiness as essential to addressing long-standing border security challenges.
The ceremony marked a major milestone in the Immigration Department’s reform efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting The Gambia’s borders, sovereignty and national security.
