
The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council has announced the sighting of the crescent marking the end of Ramadan 2025 and beginning of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr feast locally known as Koriteh.
The moon has been sighted in various parts of the country, including towns such as Kombo, Gunjur and Jarra Pakaliba.

Meanwhile, the crescent has also been confirmed to have been sighted in neighbouring countries, including Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, among others.
Sheikh Qadi Omar Ahmad Secka, Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Council, announced the moon sighting in a televised address.
“Accordingly, Sunday, March 30, 2025, has been declared as the 1st of Shawwal 1446H, marking the celebration of Eid al-Fitr in The Gambia,” he announced.
