A UK-based Gambian, Abdoulie Bojang, has been sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted of trafficking in obscene publication under the country’s cybercrime laws.

Bojang, who was on holiday in The Gambia, was arrested following an investigation by the Gambia Police Force Cybercrime Unit.

He appeared before Principal Magistrate I. Jallow at the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court last week, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The offence falls under Section 142(1)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, Magistrate Jallow handed Bojang a mandatory six-month custodial sentence.

He was also ordered to pay D1 million in compensation or serve a further two years in prison if he fails to pay.

The Gambia Police Force urged the public to report cyber offences and unlawful online content, saying community vigilance is vital to maintaining a safe digital environment.
