Ghanaian sports authorities have come under scrutiny after a Senegalese journalist alleged that the Gambian national team was not provided with adequate security and facilities ahead of Tuesday’s match in Accra.

Senegalese journalist Bamba claimed that The Gambia’s team was not provided with a police escort from the airport to their hotel or from the hotel to the Accra Sports Stadium.

He also alleged that the team was denied access to a dressing room upon arrival at the stadium and had to change on the pitch ahead of the Group C encounter.

In a post on X, Bamba called on the Ghana Football Association to improve the arrangements, saying visiting teams should be afforded the same level of respect and professionalism.

However, Ghanaian journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai disputed some of the claims, saying Ghanaian officials had assisted the Gambian delegation with visas, provided an escort to the hotel and personally guided Gambian media representatives to the dressing room.

The contrasting accounts have raised questions about the arrangements for visiting teams during African football qualifiers.

Bamba called on the Ghana Football Association and relevant authorities to provide an explanation and investigate the reported shortcomings.

The Gambia enters the fixture following a 2-1 victory over Somalia, while Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their previous Group C match.

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is yet to comment publicly on the reported treatment of the national team in Ghana.
