The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into a viral video showing police  officers slapping a civilian.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation. In the video, a policeman is seen slapping an unarmed man during an argument.

In response to the video, The Gambia Police Force described the police officers’ actions as “grossly unprofessional conduct”.

“Those involved have been instructed to report to the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit for investigation,” the statement added.

GPF stressed that it strongly condemns such misconduct, and remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.
