Gambian reggae legend, Demba Conta, will be laid to rest in his birth village of Yonna in the Central River Region on Wednesday (31 January).

The singer passed away earlier this month in Sweden, where he was based, after an illness.

His death has been described as a “big loss” for the country’s music industry. He was known for his melodious voice and campaigning for justice especially the liberation of the black race.

“It is with heavy heart and thankfulness to Allah that we announce the arrival of the body of our beloved father on Wednesday, January 31st. Following the arrival, our family will escort him to our ancestral village of Yonna, CRR, for burial after the Dhuhr prayers,” his son Edi Conta said.
