Hundreds of Gambians took to the streets on Wednesday in a mass protest against corruption and poor governance, demanding greater transparency and accountability from authorities.
The demonstration, organised by the Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), drew people from all walks of life.

Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans such as “No to corruption,” “We deserve better,” and “Power to youths and women.”

The protestors voiced concerns over a range of issues. While some focused on general government corruption and mismanagement, others drew attention to specific incidents, including an alleged corruption scandal within the country’s football sector.

Demonstrators called for improved infrastructure, chanting, “we need a better stadium. Stop corruption.”
Another contingent called for justice for the more than 70 children who died after consuming contaminated cough syrup imported from India in 2022, an incident that sparked national outrage and international scrutiny.

“We are tired of promises. We want action, we want accountability,” one protester told the Gambiana
Organisers say the protest is just the beginning of a broader campaign to hold public officials accountable and ensure justice for victims of corruption and negligence.
