The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has announced the death of Ebou Faye, a former national team player remembered for his skill and humility.

Faye, fondly known as “Limba,” was a right winger who starred for White Phantoms and Real de Banjul Football Clubs during his career.

He was part of the historic Gambian lineup that defeated Guinea’s Hafia FC in Banjul in 1973 — a match still celebrated as a landmark in Gambian football.

Off the pitch, Faye worked for many years with the Cooperative Union in Kaur, where he was admired as a humble and kind-hearted man who supported and inspired those around him.

In a statement, the President and Executive Committee of the GFF extended condolences to his family, friends, former teammates, and the management of the clubs he represented.

“Limba will be remembered not only for his contribution to Gambian football but also for the warmth and generosity he showed throughout his life,” the statement said.
