Former Senegalese President Macky Sall met with opposition figure Karim Wade in Doha on Tuesday during a brief visit to Qatar.

Sall travelled to the Qatari capital to offer his condolences following the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar, who passed away on July 14, 2026.

Currently seeking the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, Sall joined other dignitaries in expressing sympathy and solidarity with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people during the country’s period of national mourning.

The meeting between Sall and Wade has attracted attention in Senegal, given the pair’s long-standing political rivalry.

While photographs of the encounter have circulated, neither Sall nor Wade has disclosed what was discussed during their meeting.
