President Adama Barrow is expected to inaugurate the long-awaited Hakalang Roads Project on 8 November 2025, marking a major milestone in The Gambia’s national infrastructure development plan.

The Hakalang Project, located in the North Bank Region, is one of the government’s flagship road initiatives aimed at connecting remote communities to key towns and markets.

The completion of the project comes after years of construction work to improve accessibility and ease the movement of goods and people within the region.

Officials from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure said the roads are now in their final shape and ready for official opening.

The newly constructed road network is expected to transform transportation and trade activities, particularly for farmers and traders who have long struggled with poor road conditions.

Local residents have welcomed the news with great enthusiasm, saying the improved roads will reduce travel time and open up more opportunities for business and development.

Many have expressed appreciation to the government for what they describe as a “long overdue but much-needed project.”

The inauguration ceremony is expected to be held in grand style, with the attendance of senior government officials, community leaders, and development partners.

President Barrow is expected to highlight the project as part of his government’s broader commitment to improving national infrastructure and promoting equitable development across regions.

The Hakalang Roads Project is one of several road developments under President Barrow’s administration aimed at connecting communities and boosting economic growth.

Once officially opened, the road is expected to serve as a major route linking villages and towns in the North Bank Region, contributing to national progress and reinforcing the slogan, “Gambia on the Move.”
