The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, has overseen the disbursement of D6.5 million to community sports committees nationwide to boost grassroots sports and youth development.
Speaking at a signing ceremony held at The President’s International Award Hall, Minister Badjie urged beneficiaries to ensure accountability and effective use of the funds.

“This initiative is not just about giving funds; it’s about communities taking ownership, executing their plans, and making lasting improvements,” he said.
The Sports Minister explained that allocations were based on local contributions and existing infrastructure, noting that the approach marks a shift from past practices.
“This is the first time all these communities are being brought together under one coordinated initiative. In the past, support was given individually, quietly, without broader coordination. Now, we are uniting communities, ensuring transparency, and maximizing impact,” the Minister stated.
Minister Badjie added that larger grants will be released in phases to ensure proper execution. “This approach ensures every dalasi counts, projects are completed as planned, and young people across the country benefit from improved sports facilities,” he said.
Beneficiaries span Kanifing Municipality, West Coast, North Bank, Lower River and Upper River regions, with allocations ranging from D200,000 to D1 million.
