Muhammed Badamosi says he never lost faith in The Gambia’s chances of securing victory after Somalia equalised, as the striker’s late header sealed a 2-1 win in front of a packed Independence Stadium.

Muhammed Badamosi headed home in the 83rd minute to give the Scorpions a winning start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

Speaking to our reporter in the mixed zone after the match, Badamosi said he was delighted to score but insisted the victory was more important.

“I feel very happy. I am happy that I scored but the most important thing is that we won.”

The striker also praised the supporters and his teammates for their contribution to the victory. “The boys fought very hard and the supporters helped us a lot.”

And after Somalia restored parity, Badamosi remained confident the Scorpions would find a way through. “When they scored us I was confident we were going to score.”
