The former president Yahya Jammeh has promised a free university education for Gambians accusing the Barrow administration of dismantling his free education policy.

Speaking to GDC-APRC rally in Farafenni via telephone from his base in Equatorial Guinea, Jammeh said: “If I come back in four years all these will happen. There will be in  InshaAllah free education for university.”

“It supposed to be 2018 [but] these people [Barrow government] came and dismantle it. If you want progress come and join alliance and vote for the alliance for Mama Kandeh, he will build the better Gambia.

“I can tell by 2024 there will be free education not only for primary school up to high school but the University of The Gambia will be free for all Gambians by the grace of Almighty Allah,” he added.

Jammeh has now been banned from participating in the country’s political affairs as Barrow warned Jammeh’s alliance partner Mama Kandeh to desist from inviting the former president from speaking at his rallies.
