The general manager for Niumi radio Ousman A Marong has announced that he will be contesting the Lower Niumi parliamentary seat in April.

“I have the singular honour to unveil to you my intention in contesting the upcoming National Assembly elections as an independent candidate for lower Niumi District,” the Mayamba born journalist told reporters at a press conference.

According to Mr Marong, he wants to rescue his people from the “ditches they are currently in”, citing the deplorable healthcare system in the district.

“Just look at the Essau District Hospital, it is currently the main referral hospital in North Bank Region (NBR) apart from Farafenni and is currently without water.

“Patients’ families and the mothers of the newly born babies normally go to the surrounding villages in search of water. I want to put an end to this,” Marong added.

“I want to join politics because I want to change the livelihood of my people. I want them to live like the people of Kombos are living and those settling around the Senegambia areas.

“I want to bring that rapid development to my end. My people cannot continue to live in a situation where electricity is compared to a jumping light.

“Just look at the Banjul/Barra ferry crossing points. These two points have been a nightmare and headache to my people and I want to be the first ever youngest MP to change the narrative,” he said.
