Market occupants in Kanifing Municipal Council risk eviction for turning their rented shops into stores or warehouses, as the Council issued an eviction warning.

Modou Njie, Kanifing Municipal Council’s market manager, said his council has begun issuing warning letters to shop occupants within the markets. 

“We have seen that if we don’t stop this activity it will kill our markets. We have seen some shop occupants turning their shops into a store or a warehouse and this is against the market rules and regulations,” he said.

“So, we are asking those people involve in this behaviour to stop or else they will face eviction. And anyone who deliberately ignores this directive and break the law then we will have no choice but to evict you and give the shop to someone who wants to work,” he added.
