Sheriffo Ebrima Sabally has been appointed as the Alkalo of Kassa Kunda by the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs amid ongoing bitter row over the Alkalo position.

Mr Sabally’s appointment comes barely a week after the ministry of through the governor’s office of West Coast Region dismissed the former Alakalo Cherno Siranding Sabally.

The new Alkalo is said to be the younger brother of the sacked Alkalo.

A villager who spoke to Gambiana on the condition of anonymity accused the former village leadership of engaging in “dubious activities”.

“I would not say the village entirely, but there are sections in the village who have done some terrible things in the past 24 years.

“And knowing that the APRC government is gone, now they were only left with the Alkaloship to cover their dubious actions and the Alkalo took its turn so which means everything that they were doing that was wrong will be uncovered and they might find themselves in jail.

“They have sold lands that belonged to families, there were projects that came to the village that never benefited the people,” the source said.

“You know it is a separate family and the family that assumed Alkaloship right now are the founding fathers of the village because the person whom the Ministry of Lands and Regional Government has appointed is the son of the father of the village.

“Yes, literally I would say, because I was living in the village during Jammeh days.

“The Alkaloship was compromised by the same group who are today complaining to protest the removal of the Alkalo simply because they were doing things that were wrong in the village,” the source added.
