Gambian music maestro and Kora King Jaliba Kuyateh will be honoured on Thursday (19 January) with a fellowship by Goldsmiths, University of London. 

Jaliba will be honoured for his stellar career and his contribution to music. 

The fellowship which is an Honorary Degree equivalent to a Doctorate marks an extraordinary lifetime achievement for the recipient. 

Previous honorary recipients include Ali Smith CBE, the award-winning literary innovator; Thomas Heatherwick CBE, the youngest practitioner to be appointed a Royal Designer for Industry; internationally renowned anthropologist Dame Jane Goodall. 

Jaliba Kuyateh will be feted by UK-based Gambian cultural group Yaram Arts. 

“After the investiture ceremony at Queen Elizabeth II Centre at Westminster, the university will team up with Yaram Arts to hold a small private event, in conversation  and Kora recitals with Jaliba Kuyateh, Njok Malick, the head of Yaram Arts told the Standard newspaper.
