Residents of Kubuneh village in Kombo Central, West Coast Region, are appealing to the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) to urgently restore electricity after the community has gone without power for almost seven days.

Monikou Badjie, the village Public Relations Officer, said the outage followed the failure of a NAWEC transformer, which was reportedly damaged by lightning.

According to Badjie, residents contacted NAWEC several times, but technicians only arrived after three days.

They were subsequently informed that the transformer could not be repaired immediately and that no definite timeline was given for restoration.

The prolonged outage has affected essential services in the community, including the local clinic and summer classes at the school, due to the lack of electricity and water.

Badjie said the clinic serves residents from about five surrounding communities who depend on it for medical check-ups and treatment.

He added that many households in Kubuneh no longer have functioning wells and rely on NAWEC for water from the community borehole, making the electricity outage particularly difficult for residents.

Residents are calling on NAWEC to urgently address the situation and restore electricity and water services to the community.
