Momodou Sabally, adviser to President Adama Barrow and National Youth President of the ruling National People’s Party, has called on Gambians to safeguard the country’s digital sovereignty.
Speaking at the 3rd National Dialogue, Sabally warned against rushing into global technology solutions like Starlink.
“Everything that glitters is not gold,” he said, urging the nation to carefully weigh the implications of foreign tech interventions.
He highlighted The Gambia’s unique position as a small country with its own sovereign central bank and an ongoing infrastructural revolution.
“Switzerland, I understand, has been standing alone, getting out of international organisations for long. One advantage The Gambia has is partly having this infrastructural revolution and our own unique central bank. That is a treasure. Let us not sell our digital sovereignty,” he added.
The 3rd National Dialogue, themed “Harnessing The Gambia’s Human Capital and Infrastructural Resources for an Inclusive Leap to Prosperity,” brings together government officials, youth representatives, civil society actors, and development partners.
